Colegio de San Juan de Letran release the commemorative beep™ card

Colegio de San Juan de Letran is celebrating its 400th anniversary next year and as part of the celebrations, it will be releasing limited edition commemorative beep™ cards bearing the Letran 400 logo.

Specially designed for students, alumni, and other beep™ card collectors, the Letran beep™ card will be sold at Letran Bookstore for Php500 each, beginning August 1, 2019. The sale of the special cards is in conjunction with the fundraising program for the school’s Grand Celebration in 2020.

“We are celebrating our 400 years in 2020. We thank beep™ Cards for partnering with us. One of the thrusts of our celebration is to give back, thus, we are targeting to have 400 scholars. Colegio de San Juan de Letran was founded in 1620 by Don Juan Geronimo Guerrero, a retired Spanish officer, and Diego Santa Maria, a Dominican brother. Since then, it has survived wars and calamities and remained true to its commitment to pursue knowledge and excellence, producing stalwarts in the fields of medicine, sports, media and entertainment, business, and public service, to name a few.

Letran kicked off its quadricentennial celebration in November 2016 and has since been celebrating it with special events, homecomings, and tributes to alumni who have been part of weaving the school’s long and colorful history. The celebrations are divided into phases  (the past, the present, the future, and forever) covering important parts of Letran’s story, among which is the Conquistar Nuevas Glorias (Conquering New Glories) phase, where celebrations dwell on the future, looking forward to everything it holds.

Jr. NBA Philippines 2019 Presented by Alaska Hosts Metro Manila Regional Selection Camp


The last Regional Selection Camp 2019 was held at Don Bosco Technical Institute Makati last April 27 to 28. All chosen finalists boys and girls are all set to face more challenges, trainings and hard work in the coming months at the National Training Camp on May 17-19, 2019. It’s high time to prepare and be ready to compete to their chosen battle, basketball.

The regional free tryouts welcome young athletes from 10 to 14 years old, open to all boys and girls. This year Jr. NBA Philippines in partnership with Alaska hosted the two-day event facilitated by Rob Newson of the NBA and PBA legend Jeffrey Cariaso. The two lead coaches along with the other members of the committee were given the qualifiers their all-out support. Young participants on the other hand, showed their eagerness and energy through series of drills, exhibition games and challenges that were lined-up during the two-day camp. They were led to demonstrate proficiency in fundamental skills and embodied the core values of the game through the two-day camp and were set to compete among talented athletes nationwide. Audience especially the parents were all excited the thought of having the opportunity bestowed to the participants into becoming a future athlete of their own generation.  

In addition, Jr. NBA Phlippine All-Stars comprised of as many as 5 boys and 5 girls—will advance to the first Jr. NBA Global Championship Asia Pacific Selection Camp in June, a week-long selection camp with top youth players from North Asia, Southeast Asia and Pacific regions. Asia Pacific regional competition will identify 10 boys and 10 girls who will represent the region in the Jr. NBA Global Championship held August 6 to 11 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World near Orlando, Florida. The international event will headline young players from the U.S., Canada, Latin America, Europe, Middle East, China, Mexico, Africa, India and the Asia-Pacific.

Alaska is one with the Jr NBA Philippines to push the advocacy to the youth to participate and engage in such sports like basketball. Alaska also aims not just by drinking milk but also to encourage especially younger kids to lead a healthy and active lifestyle even at a very early stage of their lives. This is their way to be part in nation-building through youth sports development programs. To help nourish children develop their strength, the values of discipline, hard work and teamwork through their chosen field of sports.

Let's all have high hopes to our Pinoy youth. As parents and guardians of the next generation we should guide our children to have a better tomorrow.
